I am heading to Prague next month for the weekend. I've heard Prague to be described as the next up and coming Amsterdam in relation to its red light areas and policy on drugs.
Can anyone shine any light on this subject? I love Amsterdam but is being ruined by British yobs who go their on Stag weekends and create havoc!!! Thankfully reputable hotels in Amsterdam are cracking down on these stag parties. I just hope Prague learns lessons from their Dutch counterparts. Prague doesn't look like Amsterdam , but prostitution is too visible in Prague will all these brothels making publicity I remember a big limo in the old town advertising for one of these brothels.
Furthermore you cannot walk 3 minutes in Wenceslas square in the evening without being hassled by prostitutes. As for drugs I don't know, I have met many people coming to Prague for cheap beer! I was in Prague for 5 days over new years and everytime we walked on wencelas square and even in old town square - i'd say at least dealers asked us if we wanted drugs and listed off what they had too!
Amsterdam is a totally different vibe with its big red light district and coffee shops. Prague could be considered a small Amsterdam, but I think the Czechs are really much more sensitive to the tourist dollars. So they'll probably do whatever keeps those flowing. I think that means that the hookers will stay aroud, but be less in your face they've already passed legislation making it illegal to hawk the brothels in most parts of the city.
As far as drugs are concerned, somebody told me that beginning Jan , marijuana will be legal. Not to sell, just to use. Profile Sign up. Log in to get trip updates and message other travelers. Would you say Prague is the next Amsterdam?
